The objective of this program is to instruct and train students to become qualified to pass the Florida State Cosmetology Exam. Ultimately, preparing a person for employment as a licensed cosmetologist.

A high demand career with very employable market in the state of Florida for those that desire a license to include working on the public in all avenues of hair, skin, and nail services that enhance the appearance of a person. This program is approved by the Board of Cosmetology with emphasis on skilled communication adapting to the latest styling and coloring techniques, including: hair braiding, hair wrapping, and hair extensions.

The cosmetology program is multifaceted which allows the student to broaden their creative abilities through hair, makeup, and nail services. A wide range of marketability for the licensed cosmetologist to work within franchise, private ownership establishment, and high-end resorts. This program also offers you the ability to perform nail, facial, and body services, however excluding massage therapy as discussed in a separate program.

Program Outline:
1. Orientation: An overview of expectations for your cosmetology licensure.
2. Sterilization, Sanitation, and Bacteriology:
Methods of sanitation for tools, equipment, station, salon, demonstrated and discussed. Learning how bacteria grows and how to keep a safe environment for you and your clients.
3. Ethics, Hygiene, Personal Grooming, and Development: Learning the right and wrong way to work as a cosmetologist. Looking the part keeps clients coming back.
4. Shampoo and Rinses:
Demonstration and application of proper shampooing and use of products.
5. Hair Structure, Shaping, and Styling: Explanation of the physiology of the hair how to shape and style all types of hair. 6. Permanent Waving and Chemical Relaxing: Learn the many features of adding curl to hair or relaxing hair that tends to be overly curled.
7. Hair Coloring and Hair Lightening:
Demonstration of hair color techniques & modern trends. Learning how to mix, properly apply, and viewing end results.
8. Manicure, Pedicures, Facial Massage, and Masks: An overview of the proper procedures in the application of products for manicures, pedicures, mask treatments and how to do a facial massage. Client Consultation.
9. Hair Removal, Waxing: Learning the proper techniques for hair removal on face, and body. Contraindications for refusing to do a wax service. Client Consultation. Sanitation procedures for keeping the wax station in sanitary condition.
10. Makeup: Proper application of make up for day and evening wear. Learning to use the proper tools and products on specific skin types.
11. Florida Law and HIV/Aids:
Review Chapter 477 the Cosmetology Act for approval for this Program. Keeping yourself safe from disease.
12. Spa Techniques relating to Cosmetology: Introduction to what a body treatment, exfoliation, and wrap is all about. Demonstration and application of products relating to regenerating and detoxifying the body.
13. Business Marketing and Management:
Learn how to maintain a profitable client base and manage your own salon.


Cosmetology Class Schedule:

Note: A Semester is considered approximately 14 weeks. So every 14 weeks there is a scheduled semester break for the cosmetology and barber programs.
